Step 1: Prepare the Skin Surface
Before applying the tape, ensure that the area is clean and dry. Use soap and water to wash away dirt, oils, or sweat, then pat the skin completely dry with a towel. Moisture can interfere with the adhesive’s ability to stick, so thorough drying is essential. If necessary, shave excess hair from the area to improve adhesion and prevent pain when removing the tape later.
It’s also advisable to apply a pre-wrap or underwrap if the user has sensitive skin. This extra layer acts as a barrier between the skin and the tape, reducing the likelihood of irritation.
Step 2: Measure and Cut the Tape
Measure the length of tape needed based on the size of the area you intend to cover. Avoid cutting excessively long strips, as they may wrinkle or lose tension during application. Instead, cut shorter pieces that can overlap slightly for better coverage.
Step 3: Anchor the Tape Securely
Begin by anchoring one end of the tape firmly onto the skin. Press down gently but firmly to activate the adhesive. From there, smoothly pull the tape across the target area, maintaining even tension. Avoid stretching the tape too tightly, as this can restrict blood flow or cause discomfort.
For larger areas, consider using multiple overlapping strips rather than attempting to cover everything with a single piece. Overlapping ensures comprehensive support while allowing for flexibility.
Step 4: Secure the Ends
Once the tape is applied, press down firmly along its edges to ensure all sections adhere securely. Pay special attention to corners and ends, as these areas are prone to peeling off prematurely. You may also reinforce the edges with additional tape if needed.
Tips for Effective Application
Avoid Wrinkles: Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles as you go. These imperfections can create weak points where the tape might loosen or tear.
Follow Joint Contours: When taping around joints like knees or elbows, make sure the tape follows the natural curves of the body. This improves comfort and prevents slippage.
Test Movement: After applying the Rayon rigid strapping tape, test the range of motion to ensure it doesn’t restrict movement unnecessarily. Adjustments can be made before the adhesive fully sets.
